Footwear Care & Sizing Guide

Quality footwear, properly cared for, can last 10+ years. Many of our customers resole their Montelaire loafers and pass them to a second generation.

Size chart

Our footwear runs true to size. If between sizes, size down a half-size for loafers (which loosen) and stay true for boots and sneakers.

Breaking in new shoes

Leather molds to your foot over 5-10 wears. Avoid long days during the break-in period. A leather conditioner or shoe stretching spray can ease tight spots.

Caring for leather

• Use cedar shoe trees between wears to absorb moisture and preserve shape
• Brush dust off with a soft brush
• Polish with cream polish every 4-6 wears
• Waterproof annually with a leather waterproofing spray
• Rotate between 2-3 pairs to let each pair rest 24 hours between wears

Caring for suede

• Use a suede brush to lift the nap after each wear
• Apply suede protector spray every 3 months
• Treat water stains immediately with a damp cloth
• For deeper stains, use a suede eraser
• Never use leather polish on suede

When to resole

For leather-soled welted or blake-stitched styles: every 200-300 wears, or when the sole shows through. A quality cobbler can resole most quality shoes 2-3 times before the upper needs work.

Are the loafers leather-lined?

Yes, all our loafers are fully leather-lined for breathability and longevity.

Can I wear these in rain?

Leather and suede are water-resistant when properly conditioned, but not waterproof. Avoid heavy rain. Dry naturally if wet (never near direct heat).

Do you offer half sizes?

Half sizes for US Men 7-12 on most styles. Check individual product pages for full availability.
